Bring Roque home? DILG says his asylum bid denied, waiting for red notice to get him

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said former Duterte presidential spokesperson Harry Roque’s asylum application in Austria has been denied.

Remulla said Philippine authorities are waiting for a red notice from the International Criminal Police Organization to take Roque into custody.

“By the way, na-deny yung asylum ni Harry Roque. Tapos na iyong five months. Kung may red notice na, kukunin ko na,” Remulla told reporters in a press conference Tuesday.

Roque left the Philippines amid a congressional probe into his alleged links to a Philippine offshore gaming operator in 2024.

He was later charged with non-bailable qualified human trafficking charges in connection with the POGO hub Lucky South 99 in Porac, Pampanga. The court has also issued a warrant for his arrest.

He initially applied for asylum in the Netherlands, claiming political persecution, and was referred to Austria, which issued his Schengen visa.
