Binay on IATF’s face shield fiasco: ‘Wala ba silang group chat?’
Former Vice President Jejomar Binay reminded President Rodrigo Duterte’s men to get their act together, with their miscommunication now confusing people as to whether or not they should wear face shields outside their homes.
“Government changed its policy on face shields at least three times in a single day. All they needed to do was coordinate. Pero yun lang, hindi nagawa. Uulitin ko ang aking tanong noon: wala ba silang group chat?,” the abogado and former politiko said in a statement.
His main gripe is that the government forced Pinoys to spend on face shields, whether the flimsy kind or the more costly but durable ones, only to take back the order.
“The money that ordinary Filipinos have spent on face shields could have been used to buy food and other basic needs. And we have been spending for something that has not been proven to give 100% added protection, as clearly shown by the debate even among people in government,” Binay said.
Instead of “obsessing” over the plastic shields that double as headbands, he said government should just really focus its might on better contact tracing, testing, and vaccination.
“Magtataka pa ba tayo kung bakit hanggang ngayon, mataas pa ring ang Covid cases at tumataas pa sa labas ng NCR?,” he added.
