Biglang kalimot! Enrile denies signing UP-DND accord in the 80s
Former senator Juan Ponce Enrile is suddenly washing his hands clean of the landmark accord between the University of the Philippines and the Department of National Defense, an agency which he used to head.
The 97-year-old abogado now claims on Facebook that he has never met Sonia Soto, the student leader who forged an agreement that military and police state forces are not allowed to set foot inside UP campuses without a valid reason accepted by the university.
Enrile, who usually takes pride in his sharp memory and legal expertise, is now playing dumb about the accord being revoked by DND.
“Tell me the date of that so-called Soto-Enrile so I can check my daily diary for the year 1982. I know it is a lie,” the abogado said.
“Besides, in 1982, I think the President of UP was Edgardo Angara. Why should I sign an agreement with a student at that time when I could have signed it with Edgardo Angara, who was my former law partner?,” he added.
The deal involves Enrile and UP student leaders, which was agreed upon during an October 21, 1981 dialogue, according to Sonia Soto herself.
