BI: Romualdez personal aide among co-accused out of the country

Former Speaker Martin Romualdez’s personal aide and co-accused in his plunder case, Joselyn Serenio, left the Philippines before the Sandiganbayan issued the order barring her departure, according to the Bureau of Immigration.

In a statement, the BI said Serenio was recorded to have left before the hold departure order was issued.

Another co-accused, former lawmaker Elizaldy Co, has also been out of the country.

The BI said it cannot share specific details about their trip or other personal information about them in compliance with the 2012 Data Privacy Act.

A third co-accused, businessman Felicito Guevarra, remains in the country.

“The BI will continue to strictly enforce the HDO and undertake appropriate immigration measures within its mandate,” it said in a statement.

Romualdez has been arrested and has been detained at the Quezon City Jail.

He and co-accused were charged in connection with the alleged receipt of P7.4 billion in kickbacks from entities with interests in flood control and other infrastructure projects.
