Four Japanese nationals wanted for fraud in their home country were deported on Tuesday, the Bureau of Immigration said.

The four were flown aboard a Japan Airlines flight from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3, escorted by personnel of the Japan National Police Agency.

The first two deportees, Takumi Oi, 31, and Sho Okada, 27, were arrested in April this year by virtue of outstanding warrants issued by the Kokura Summary Court in Japan for alleged fraud in violation of the Japanese Penal Code.

They allegedly impersonated law enforcers to facilitate financial fraud. BI records also showed that they had overstayed in the Philippines after failing to extend their authorized period of stay.

The other two deportees, Yuki Sugita, 39, and Yuta Takahashi, 45, were also facing outstanding warrants issued by the Omiya Summary Court for alleged fraud.

They overstayed beyond their authorized period of stay in the country.

The four Japanese fugitives were covered by separate summary deportation orders issued by the BI and were turned over to Japanese authorities for appropriate legal action.

“The Bureau of Immigration will not allow the Philippines to become a refuge for foreign fugitives or individuals involved in illegal activities. We will continue to strengthen coordination with our international law enforcement counterparts to ensure that those wanted for serious offenses are properly identified and dealt with in accordance with Philippine immigration laws,” BI commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said.
