Be humble kasi! Locsin’s advise to Ressa on Keng’s 2nd libel: Be smart, try begging to Keng

Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Locsin thinks Rappler executive editor Maria Angelita Ressa should try another tack after getting a second libel suit from bilyonaryo Wilfredo Keng.

Locsin suggested that Ressa get off her high horse and beg Keng’s forgiveness for posting nasty stuff about the businessman.

“I was sued for repeating an @inquirerdotnet story. I went to (former Senator Rene) Saguisag to defend me from Atty Armovit a brilliant lawyer. Rene said, ‘Try begging’. I did coz I’d repeated a libel and published a disclaimer: ‘I will never quote that paper again’. Armovit sued @inquirerdotnet only,” said Locsin on Twitter.

“This is the honorable tradition of throwing the one who got you in trouble under the bus. It falls under the law of the contract of carriage,” he added.

Locsin was referring to abogado Raymundo Armovit who was accused of harboring his client, Rolito Go, who went on the lam after getting sentenced to 40 years for the killing of De La Salle student Eldon Maguan.

“@inquirerdotnet reported that Armovit hid his client in his beach house in Ilocos which was raided by NBI. 2 problems said Armovit: ‘I don’t own a beach house anywhere. On the day in question NBI conducted no raid anywhere whatsoever’. I fell on my knees. This is called ‘smarts’,” Locsin said.

Locsin made the suggestion after Ressa faced a second libel suit from Keng who didn’t like Ressa’s 2019 tweet about a 2002 Philippine Star article alleging the businessman’s involvement in the killing of a Manila councilor.

Keng filed the case in February 2020 four months before he won his libel case against Ressa and former Rappler write Rey Santo for a 2012 article which accused Keng of being a drug smuggler, human trfficker and murder suspect based on the 2002 Philippine Star article which has been taken down.

“You see, however great you—are as shown by what you did for your country which no one comes close to—you never lose sight of the fact that when you’re wrong you’re wrong; and you better apologize because nobody is special and exempted no matter how good looking and smart,” said Locsin.
