Bahala kayo dumiskarte! Guevarra leaves it to prosecutors to find ways how to attend inquests during lockdown
This was the advice of Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra to government prosecutors who were required to attend inquest proceedings even during the total lockdown in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.
Guevarra said both prosecutors and their staff should be on call from March 17 to April 13 when public transportation was suspended and curfew was in place.
“We leave it to the prosecution offices to devise their own ways; use the official vehicle, private car pool, bikes, etc. we all have to be creative these days,” said Guevarra.
Guevarra ordered the closure of all prosecution offices nationwide starting 23 March 2020 and for the duration of the public health emergency.
Prosecution offices were asked to coordinate with the local Philippine National Police and other law enforcement units and to make available the names of our designated contact/point persons and/or all contact details for purposes of inquest and very urgent court duty where and when necessary.
“Every one is directed to stay in their respective residences. Prosecutors and support staff members shall only go their respective offices for very urgent matters”, said Guevarra.
“Please ensure the availability at all times of inquest prosecutors who shall be on-call. No travel or leave applications shall be allowed/granted during the period of the public health emergency,” he added.
