Ardot Parojinog asks SC for protection
Former Ozamiz City Councilor Ricardo “Ardot” Parojinog has filed a petition asking the Supreme Court (SC) for protection following his detention last year.
In a nine-page petition for a writ of amparo, Ardot—the brother of slain Ozamiz City Mayor and alleged narcopolitician Reynaldo Parojinog, Sr.—complained of the harassment by authorities against him and his family.
He asked for a temporary restraining order (TRO) to stop the Ozamiz City Regional Trial Court (RTC) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) from transferring him back to the city.
Ardot cited “an imminent danger to [his] life, whose circumstances can only be mitigated if not fully allayed by the issuance of a protection order against the respondents.”
Named respondents were PNP Chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde, controversial Ozamiz City police chief Major Jovie Espenido and Judge Soliver Peras.
Ardot faces charges of illegal possession of firearms and explosives. He was arrested in Taiwan in April 2018 for lacking proper documents, after 10 months in hiding.
President Rodrigo Duterte had accused the Parojinog family of running a drug syndicate. Ozamiz City police killed Reynaldo Sr. and 14 others in a July 30, 2017 raid at their house; the late mayor’s children, then-Vice-Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog and Reynaldo Parojinog, Jr., were arrested on illegal firearms and drugs charges.
