3 PMA cadets, doctors ordered arrested for Dormitorio hazing death
Three Philippine Military Academy cadets and several doctors implicated in the hazing death of Cadet 4th Class Darwin Dormitorio last year have been ordered arrested for murder by the Baguio City regional trial court.
Ordered arrested were cadets Shalimar Imperial, Jr., Felix Lumbag, Jr., and Julius Carlo Tadena. The latter will face charges for less serious physical injuries.
Likewise, former PMA Station Hospital chief Lt. Col. Ceasar Candelaria and medical officers Capt. Flor Apple Apostol and Maj. Maria Ofelia Beloy, were ordered arrested too on the strength of a July 7 warrant issued by Baguio RTC Judge Maria Ligaya Itliong-Rivera.
The academy doctors denied misdiagnosing Dormitorio, who was treated for a urinary tract infection before he died.
Dormitorio, 20, died after complaining of stomach pain. He was confined at the hospital twice and had bruises on his stomach consistent with hazing.
Malacañang condoled with the family of Dormitorio, and lamented a failure in PMA leadership in relation to preventing the incident.
Hazing incidents and frat-related violence have been plaguing the country’s premier military training institution and other law schools, some of which resulted in deaths.
President Rodrigo Duterte last year signed a stronger anti-hazing law, in response to the hazing death of University of Santo Tomas law freshman Horacio Castillo III. #
