Hindi pa kumbinsido. Senators want ‘extensive’ briefing on the need to extend martial law– Win
Senators want an “honest-to-goodness” briefing from security, economic, human rights officials regarding the proposal to extend martial law in Mindanao for one year.
Sen. Win Gatchalian on Saturday said his colleagues, through Senate President Koko Pimentel, sought an “extensive” briefing from security and economic clusters as well as from the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) regarding the matter.
“Kami, bilang senador, mananagot din kami sa taumbayan. ‘Pag umiikot tayo sa buong Pilipinas ‘yan ang itinatanong. So, we need to justify it through proper information,” Gatchalian said in a radio interview.
“Kailangan talaga mapag-aralan ang briefing ba ibibigay sa atin kung talagang tama o may basehan ba ‘yung extension ng martial law,” he said.
He added, “Meron kaming chat group at nag-usap usap nga kami roon para mabilis ang communication. We requested these three groups para isang usapan na lang.”
Asked whether Pimentel is “open” to their request, Gatchalian said, “I think open naman (siya) dahil kasama ito sa pagbibigay ng information and to substantiate ang ating decision.”
“So, we really have a basis for our decision,” the senator said.
