Relampagos lawyers wants out as counsels
Now that he has become a fugitive, the lawyers of former Budget undersecretary Mario Relampagos have informed the Sandiganbayan that they no longer want to be his counsels.
“For the past few weeks, the undersigned law firm has exerted utmost efforts to convince accused Relampagos to return and face the charges against him,” read the motion of his lawyers Godofredo de Guzman and Arnold Caga.
“Despite earnest efforts, accused Relampagos has not heeded his counsel’s advice,” they lamented.
The lawyers told the Sandiganbayan “the undersigned law firm humbly submits that it can no longer carry out its responsibilities effectively for reasons beyond its control.”
“The undersigned law firm, with the indulgence of the honorable court, respectfully prays that it be relieved as counsel for accused Relampagos,” they asked.
Relampagos is facing multiple charges before the Sandiganbayan over his alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam.
However, he has been declared a fugitive when he failed to return to the Philippines last January 1 after being allowed to go to the United States.
