According to the UP LSG statement, they continue to reject the “legal gymnastics” that the SC went through to oust former Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno. Similarly, they cast some doubts on the general appointment of De Castro and what kind of judiciary reforms she can implement in the span of 41 days.
The abogado aspirants also noted that appointing another Chief Justice after her short term is a blatant waste of taxpayers’ money, and only entitled De Castro to a bigger share on the retirement fund. It will be best to dedicate this amount to other basic social services in the country.
The UP LSG continues to call on the SC to be independent of the powers that be. They also called on the people to keep their eyes open and hold government officials accountable for their wrongdoing.
Moving on? Not in my book!
