Leonen drops Sereno like a hot potato, moves for Carpio takeover of SC

Sharing is caring!

It has come as a shock to many abogados that Associatie Justice Marvic Leonen himself would pull the trigger on Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno’s departure from the Supreme Court amid the long-running, expose-laden impeachment hearing against the top magistrate.

GMA News’ reporter Joseph Morong reported that it was Leonen who moved for an executive session to exclude Sereno during he heated en banc sessions last Tuesday.

Leonen reportedly moved to transfer the chairmanship of the meeting to Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio. But Sereno initially resisted but relented later and agreed to go on indefinite leave (her spokesperson tried to downplay her forced departure as a wellness leave”).

Both Sereno and Leonen were appointees of then President Benigno Aquino and were widely lumped together as “dilawan” in the 15-member SC.

But Leonen had made his feelings known about how Sereneo has become an embarrassment and distraction to the High Court with a series of tweets three days before the heated en back confrontation with Sereno.
