IBP-Negros Occidental denounces killing of lawyer Benjamin Ramos
The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Negros Occidental chapter condemned the killing of human rights lawyer Benjamin Ramos.
“This atrocity against a civilian lawyer, practically defenseless and unsuspecting, is apparently intended to demoralize and undermine lawyers in practicing their profession and pursuing their advocacies,” chapter president Arnel Lapore said.
His slaying was meant to demoralize and prevent lawyers from practicing their profession, added Lapore.
Ramos was the third lawyer gunned down by unidentified assailants in Western Visayas this year.
In August, Rafael Atotubo, who handle drug crime cases, was shot dead in front of his house in Bacolod City.
Atty. Edeljulio Romero was also killed in September in Roxas City after a court hearing.
“Once and for all, we need to put a stop to these killings and bring to justice the perpetrators of such actions,” Lapore said in a Panay News article.
