Duterte outs Calida as a rabid Marcos loyalist: He’s related to them
President Rodrigo Duterte has confirmed that Solicitor General Jose Calida is a true blue follower of the late President Ferdinand Marcos and he might even have blood ties to the former dictator.
“You know Calida is an Ilocano. I think he’s related to the Marcoses. Calida is passionately, pro-Marcos ‘yan. Ilocano eh,” said Duterte in an interview Wednesday.
Duterte said Calida was among the most vocal during their meetings on the controversial plan to allow the burial of Marcos’ remains at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City.
Calida himself has been all out in his support for the Marcoses, including the top endorser of a Duterte-Bongbong Marcos tandem in the 2016 elections.
The Supreme Court’s decision allowing the burial of Marcos’ remains in November 2016 is one of the five High Court victories chalked up by Calida in nearl three years in office.
His other SC victories are:
1) The SC gave the Regional Trial Court of Muntinlupa City the go-signal to hear and decide on the drug cases filed against former justice secretary and now detained Senator Leila de Lima.
2) The SC affirmed in December 2017 its ruling that declared constitutional and legal President Rodrigo Duterte’s declaration of martial law in the entire Mindanao region.
3) The high court affirmed the constitutionality of the full-year extension of martial law in Mindanao as part of the government’s campaign to quell terrorism in the region.
4) The SC upheld his quo warranto petition to disqualify former Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno for failure to submit statements of assets, liabilities and net worth.
